| Project Information: |
Under this scheme Jordan River water is impounded in Lake Kinneret, average elevation 212 m, and lifted to a concrete-lined canal and pipeline carring the water over a distance of some 130_km; groundwater is also fed into this system en route to boost supplies, as well as to improve water quality.
Main components of the system:
-
two pumping stations with an installed capacity of 170,000 HP and a total lift of 370 m;
-
2,200 m long, 2.20 - 2.80_m dia. steel penstock, l6 km long concretelined canal with a capacity of 20_cu.m/sec;
-
700 m long, 3.1 m diameter inverted siphon crossing the 150 m deep Amud Canyon;
-
450 m long, 3.6 m diameter inverted siphon crossing the 50 m deep Zalmon Canyon;
-
77 km long, 108 inch diameter pipeline;
-
three tunnels (the longest, the 6.5 km long Menashe tunnel);
-
operational reservoirs with a total capacity of 7.6 MCM;
-
open concrete conduit for diversion and conveyance of saline spring waters intercepted on the periphery of Lake Kinneret.
Long term holdover storage of the system, 1,000 MCM. Annual project capacity, 400 MCM. Total construction cost, US$ 115 million. |
