| Project Information: |
The median strip of the expressway provides facilities for dual railway tracks forming part of the Tel Aviv- Ashdod Rapid Transit System.
Work carried out under the feasibility study included traffic and soil surveys; relocation studies for public utilities - electricity, water, gas, telephone, sewerage and storm drainage systems, and mapping of the project area. Owing to the high groundwater table in the area and the proximity of the area to the Mediterranean, special attention had to be given to solution of the drainage problem.
Preliminary engineering design included preparation of highway profiles and cross-sections, typical sections at rapid transit stations and between stations, cut and fill computations, formulation of design criteria for design of structures -bridges, retaining walls, roadway drainage facilities, etc., economic studies, and preparation of quantity and construction cost estimates.
Detailed design work comprised the preparation of contract documents and specifications for all parts of the project, including roadway plans and profiles, structural plans, and profiles for bridges and for the drainage system. Special soil tests were also carried out for structural foundations and pavement design.
Construction cost: US$ 20 million. |
