• Collection and processing of data to assess past passenger movement, traffic patterns and physical-environmental conditions of the airport
• Preparation of international and domestic passenger forecasts (broken down into tourists, residents, immigrants and transit passengers), and of freight and aircraft movements up to the year 2000
• Drawing up of planning criteria, taking into consideration present and foreseen planning constraints
• Design of alternative layouts for runway alignments, international and domestic traffic terminals, aircraft parking areas, service and infrastructural facilities, etc.
• Analysis of impact of runway alternatives on airport traffic flows and establishment of noise exposure forecasts for areas in the vicinity of the airport
• Preparation of cost estimates
• Selection of principal alternatives and their economic evaluation
• Formulation of recommended layouts for runways, terminal buildings and infrastructural facilities
• Preparation of implementation schedule
The master plan envisages a total annual passenger movement of 10,000,000 by the year 1985 and 27,000,000 by the year 2000. On the basis of the master plan, a decision was taken by the Authorities to implement the runway layout recommendations without delay in order to bring the recommended Open V runway into operation by the year 1976.
Detailed planning of the terminal area and buildings was also undertaken by the Consultants.
