The landfill site is situated near Menahamia, near Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), and covers an area of 34ha. At full capacity it is to receive 1,000 tons of non-toxic waste per day.
The site began to receive waste in January 2000 and operation is planned for a period of about 10 years.
Conducted by SITAHAL, a registered partnership between the TAHAL Group and SITA of France, the project is the Group's only BOT undertaking in Israel.
Components include:
• Studying the impact on the surrounding areas in accordance with the construction regulations issued by the National Board for Planning and Building and the Ministry of the Environment.
• Planning the landfill site, including access roads, on the level of detailed design.
• Drawing up an engineering program for preparation of the site, project management, and treatment and disposal of the wastes in compliance with international methods and regulations.
Planning continuous closure of site areas in parallel with operation, as well as final closure.
• Operating the site in accordance with standards and approved designs.
• Developing and implementing a control and monitoring system to prevent adverse impacts on the environment.
• Preparing technical specifications and tender documents for contracting firms to carry out the works.
